Throughout the two-year course, students will complete six units, achieving both the Certificate and Introductory Diploma qualifications. These units are designed to build foundational skills, technical knowledge, and creative expression, while also giving you insight into the professional world of photography.

Year 1: Certificate Qualification

In your first year, you will complete three foundational units:

▪ Exploring Digital Photography
▪ Landscape Photography
▪ Art and Design in Context (mandatory).

The Art and Design in Context unit explores the historical and contemporary trends within photography and the boarder art and design landscape. You will research and investigate key photographers and artists, developing a personal response to their work. This unit will culminate in a creative outcome which will showcase your understanding of visual language and concept development.

Year 2: Introductory Diploma Qualification

In your second year, you will complete three further units. These may include:

▪ Portrait Photography
▪ Digital Image Creation
▪ Realising an Outcome for a Specialist Art or Design Brief

These units allow you to refine your skills and apply them to more advanced creative briefs, helping you to develop a professional portfolio of work that demonstrates your versatility as a photographer.

Assessment

The qualification is assessed though a combination of practical assignments, projects and written work, enabling you to demonstrate your skills and knowledge across each unit. Each unit will be graded as Pass, Merit or Distinction based on your performance. Your final grade will reflect your achievements across all units.
